Health@Home PHG Privacy Policy

This privacy policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how their ‘Personally Identifiable Information’ (PII) is being used online. PII, as described in US privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read our privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect or otherwise handle your Personally Identifiable Information in accordance with our website.

Use of location information:
The Health@Home PHG application does not use or expose location information in spite of the fact that it requests that permission as well as the permission to run in the background. The reasons for these permissions are as follows: The main function of Health@Home PHG is to discover Bluetooth Health Devices, present them to the user, and if the user accepts the device, connect to them and get medical measurements. Once accepted by the user, for user friendliness, Health@Home PHG continues to scan for that device so reconnects happen automatically without user intervention. To discover Bluetooth Low Energy health devices Health@Home PHG must use the BluetoothLeScanner.startScan() API. Google requires location permissions to use the BluetoothLeScanner.startScan() API. It is not clear to Lamprey Networks why location permissions are required to use that method, since that method only LISTENs for Bluetooth Low Energy devices and does not transmit information that could be tracked. To auto reconnect without user intervention Health@Home needs to use the BluetoothLeScanner.startScan() API in a background service. That requires background permissions. Thus even though Health@Home PHG must request location information to operate, it never uses, needs, or exposes location information.
